Planning and organizing a house move is a considerable challenge, but once there are only 5 weeks left, things tend to get even more hectic around the house. In order to stay focused and organized you need to make sure that you are following your checklist, so 5 weeks before the big day you are going according to schedule and not missing anything important. What are the things you need to take care of at this stage of the moving process?
1. Organize the packing process: At this point of the relocating process, if you are doing a DIY packing, you should have gathered all the packing material that you will need. This includes moving boxes of various sizes, packing tape, stretch wrap, paper, markers, straps, moving blankets, specialty boxes, bubble wrap and more. Without sufficient packing material it will be harder to pack in an organized way and stick to your deadline.
2. Organize the relocation: Take your car for a check-up if you are driving to the new place and make sure your pets have been taken to the vet. Gather all documents – personal papers, certificates, records and financial papers and keep them in a safe file.
3. Call your utility companies: When there is about a month left before you move out, it’s time to start calling the utility companies so you can cancel your services or give your new address.
4. Get rid of the junk: Before you pack your entire household, make sure that you get rid of all the old and unwanted items that have been piling up for years. There is no point packing them and paying for their transportation, if you are never going to use them again. Simply junk them, sell them or donate them. Decluttering your house is one of the best things that the house move will cause.
Moving house isn’t easy, but it is without doubt one of the most exciting times of our lives. It is an opportunity for a fresh start and a change and this is a big event that requires proper consideration and planning.
